Artwork guidelines
- Please submit files created in Adobe
Illustrator.
- Preferred file set-up guidelines for
AI files.
- Placed Images
- Please supply high resolution
images if possible (300 dpi or
greater).
- Images should be in CMYK format.
- RGB images and DCS images have
to be converted, with the color
of the converted file sometimes
differing greatly from the original.
- Please supply clipping paths
with images, if possible.
- Utilizing EPS images with AI
will keep file sizes to a minimum.
- If color correction is required,
especially for complex images,
please supply a layered Photoshop
file if possible as this provides
the most efficient environment
for editing the color breakdown
of the image.
- Color
- Please supply a color target
for referrence if possible.
- A color laser, color swatches,
PMS color referrences, etc.
- AI8 files created with colors
in the file linked to swatches
in the swatch palette that are
set as "spot colors"
or "global process colors"
offer the most efficient editing
when color matching is required.
- White Plate
- Any items that need to be backed
in white should be copied to a
unique layer. These items should
referrence a special "custom
white" spot color, although
the actual CMYK breakdown of the
spot color referrence used on
the file is not important.
- The white plate items should
be set to overprint (fill and/or
stroke as applicable).
- Other file formats
- Adobe Indesign (v2.0 or less) files
are accepted, although this format
is not yet being widely utilized and
therefore has not been extensively
tested.
- Quark version 4.1 or less files
can be printed. Since these files
are not as versatile as AI files,
particularly in creating a white plate,
there is often increased cost due
to increased file time.
- Freehand version 10 or less files
can be submitted, although this format
is not recommended due to the increase
in file time vs. Illustrator files.
Please convert all Freehand files
to Illustrator files if possible before
submitting them to CL&D Digital.
This will allow you to verify the
accuracy of the conversion. There
is often increased cost with files
submitted in Freehand due to increased
file time.
