Case file #1: Jet-setting new packaging.

A personal care products manufacturer’s new packaging designs proved to be winners, according to focus group results – and thanks to their decision to call CL&D Digital. The client had a fast package printing job that practically had to be done overnight, in order to conduct the focus group as scheduled and ultimately meet the fast-approaching product launch date.
Tuesday morning, the client called CL&D with an order of 128 total packages of 44 different items for a Thursday morning focus group. Typical delays in changes pushed the final art approvals back to 5:00 p.m. Files were uploaded to CL&D’s FTP site and associates went to local stores to buy $700 of the client’s products for re-packaging. The client approved printed proofs in two shifts of 22 proofs each within one hour each, and by 2:00 a.m., printing, laminating, slitting, and forming of the packaging was underway.
CL&D then re-packed the store-bought products in the new packaging and shipped the order via private charter plane at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday night. All the products were delivered one hour before Thursday’s 8:00 a.m. focus group!

Case file #2: A grinding whole bean challenge.

Walk down the coffee aisle today and chances are good you’ll see these six new products after being successfully presented by a number of sales reps to a major retailer.
In five days, the client needed 200 pouches filled with each of six flavors of ground coffee with one big problem: they only had bags of whole bean coffee to ship to CL&D! After artwork was delayed and finally approved, the packaging was digitally printed, and a few layers of film were laminated together to produce the package. CL&D ground the six flavors of coffee beans and packaged it in its GMP-certified facility.

Case file #3: Let’s drink to 152,000 labels & 42,000 cartons.

With a limited quantity of product, a beverage manufacturer collected test market data that showed favorable consumer reaction – giving them the green light to move forward with full-scale production.
The client turned to CL&D with a need for 152,000 labels and 42,000 cartons, which incorporated 24 total new designs for test marketing scheduled at stores in three weeks!
In 12 working days and with proof approvals in hand, the labels and cartons were printed, cut, and packaged for shipments to the client’s fulfillment center for automatic label application and packaging in the cartons.

Case file #4: Just-in-time outerwear.

A manufacturer of outerwear arrived at one of two big new products shows on opposite coasts to see the company’s latest thermal shirt already on display in its packaging – and for the first time “live.”
Both shows were seven days from the initial CL&D Digital contact – and the client needed 300 labels for an odd-shaped container that also had to be hand-applied. CL&D presented two label concepts, and with artwork in hand, printed and hand-applied the labels.
What about the proof? Due to his tight travel arrangements, the client could not see a live one, so digital photos of his new product were e-mailed to him. Thanks to CL&D, he walked into the show with the peace-of-mind in knowing that his new product was perfect for its debut!

Case file #5: A study in snack savings.

A snack food manufacturer saved thousands of dollars and weeks of lost time by test-marketing its new product with limited quantities instead of moving ahead to full-scale production. Turns out the original graphics and net weight versus sale price needed adjustment before hitting actual store shelves!
The client needed 1300 each of six new items – and filled with the products. Since it had no existing art files, CL&D was asked to create files for the new six new bags using art from existing products set up for a different packaging style and size. Within four days and working with the client’s packaging technology department, CL&D created the new art files. Six business days later, the 7800 bags were printed, laminated, slit, sheeted, formed, filled with product, sealed, and shipped to three test market locations.

Case file #6: An inexpensive, international initiative.

International sales reps for a personal care product manufacturer were able to successfully “show and tell” about two new products during major retailer pitches – while saving time and money over conventional printing.
Orders in twenty different eastern European and Asian countries were on the line. 2500 completed samples were turned-around by CL&D (including application to the supplied product) just seven days from receiving art for both the front panel main brand label and back panel booklet label!

Case file #7: A fast face-lift.

A major beverage bottling company introduced a new product – with a jazzy new label material introduced to them by CL&D – with label turn-around over one weekend.
CL&D’s long-time customer ordered two versions of 1600 labels total on Thursday. Files were quickly uploaded using an FTP site and hard proofs printed and shipped express morning delivery by Thursday afternoon. The customer had changes, so a PDF proof was sent out Friday morning. By 11:00 a.m., CL&D had approval and printing was underway. At 2:00 a.m. Saturday, both labels were printed, laminated, slit, and ready for sheeting. The labels were then cut to size, packed, and ready for delivery at 5:00 p.m.

The cliché “curiosity killed the cat” is a reminder that it can be a mistake to be too curious – or that curiosity can get you into unexpected trouble. The exact origin of this cliché is unknown, but some have linked it indirectly to Shakespeare and British playwright Ben Johnson back in the late 1500s.
